Ovarian Psycos Present: The Tender Gender Bender Ride! This Sunday, November 24th!

Untitled

Is gender just a matter of being male and female? Is gender only about the way you look or dress? Is it about how you see yourself and how it affects you? Is it socially constructed by the capitalist system to create a gender hierarchy?

Join Las Ovarios del Barrio this month as we explore these questions and more!!!

During this months all gender ride the Ovarian Psycos invite you to come and explore the spectrum of gender. We will touch on the basics of:

*gender identity
* gender as a social construction
*patriarchy & colonialism as they relate to gender politics
*how to be an ally to folx with who’s identity lies outside the gender binary (societies definitions of masculine & feminine)

This workshop will be mostly activity and discussion based. We want to create a safe space for folx to share and learn. Therefore, we encourage everyone to come with an open heart and open mind. Bigotry and oppression will not be tolerated.

We will make our way past the solemn yet lively Evergreen cemetery with its multi-purpose path past joggers that can be found running any time of day or night to El Mercadito waving at crowds of people strolling, reminiscing about the plazas and mercados in their own pueblos back home, through residential neighborhoods and big boulevards, schools and cultural centers, taking back and reclaiming our communities in a truly critical mass!

PHOTO RECAP! Psycos Recycle–A Day @ Long Beach 12/18/11

{OVARIAN PSYCLES RECYCLE}

 A DAY in the LBC!

The first krew starts from Montebello Park around 1:00 PM and rides along the beautiful urban riverpath to met up with with the Southeast LA krew. They meet up on Imperial where the Rio Hondo and LA River meet on the bike path.

The cyclists stop a little over midway to partake in a stretching session and some wholesome snacking! Maryann’s got that reusable canteen! ❤

They hustle to make it in about 2 hours.

The roadside is lined with sage bushes that the girls can’t help but pick.

The group engages in some beautification at Long Beach. The group picks up trash along the shore. The majority of trash is Styrofoam which IS NOT RECYCLEABLE!

Other fun items found: a bloody tampon and a condom. EWW. Seriously, people?

So, please help reduce waste and protect the environment by riding your bike & opting for reusable containers such as a kleen kanteen or bobble water bottle, with a build in water filter (starting at 6$ online)!

This holiday season, please keep mother earth in mind and make sure your gifts are eco-friendly. ♥

Love always,

The Ovas
