It’s Coming: the Organizing Committee Meets to Finalize Plans for August Clitoral Mass
Several months ago, I sat down with Sean Deyoe, one of the masterminds behind the Passage Ride. He had asked about setting up a bike ride through South L.A. and if I would think about an interesting and informative route through the area.
Sure, I said. I could try…
HELL, NO, I thought to myself. Is he INSANE?
I ride almost every day, and I ride a lot — anywhere from 20 – 60 miles a day, depending on where I have to be — and have for almost 20 years.
So, it’s not like I don’t get around.
But I’m almost always riding alone.
The idea of organizing a ride so other people could see what I see, and be entertained, informed, and invigorated all at once strikes me as terrifying.
I don’t know why, really. Maybe it is the idea of imposing the way I ride and the odd things I like on other people? I’m not sure. Whatever it is, I never came up with that South L.A. route. (Sorry, Sean. I suck, I know.)
So, when I saw the organizing committee put out a call for volunteers to attend their sixth (6th!) planning meeting for the 2nd Annual Clitoral Mass ride spearheaded by the Ovarian Psycos, I wanted to sit in and hear how they were tackling the problem.

THANKS TO ALL THE LOVELY WOMYN & WOMYN ID’d FOLKS WHO HELPED MAKE LA’S FIRST CLITORAL MASS A TODO DAR!
More than 250 womyn took the streets on their bicis, guided by ladies in reflective vests and the outline of, of course, the beautiful moon goddess coyolxauhqui dressed in blue, on August 31st for LA’s first Clitoral Mass!
The ride came after months of preparation by the Clitoral Mass committee which consisted of Ovarian Psycos core collective members, our sisters over at the Iron Unicorns and many other womyn/womyn id’d cyclists and all around psycos! Womyn in the CMC coordinated safety, “caracol” traffic control, pit stops that included a drum circle in Leimert Park and snacks at La Mina in City Terrace, an after-party celebrating OPCB’s 2 year anniversary and much more!
Riders met up at LA’s state historic park on Friday Aug. 31st–no, not making line for FYF– but to ride in LA”s first ever Clitoral Mass ride. Elsewhere, Critical Mass may have drawn nearly 2,000+ riders, but Clitoral Mass made historic strides that will leave skid marks in LA’s history forever.

CALLING ALL WOMBYN PSYCLISTS!!!!
Are you tired of going to Critical Mass rides and feeling outnumbered by the testosterone energy??
Do you ever wonder what it would look like if the script was flipped and you found yourself engulfed by what seemed like an endless sea of wombyn and wombyn identified folx on bicycles, chanting, and riding and together howling at the moon?
If this sounds like you… hit us up! We are currently looking to form a Clitoral Mass committee with sisters that are down to help organize LA’s first ever CLITORAL MASS RIDE!
Honoring wombyn cyclists everywhere.. together reclaiming the night, reclaiming our streets..
